The Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was founded in 2002 on the basis of the former Xinjiang Institute of Physics and the former Xinjiang Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The predecessors of the former Xinjiang Institute of Physics and the former Xinjiang Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences were the physical research centre and the chemistry research centre both affiliated themselves with the former Xinjiang branch courts of Chinese Academy of Sciences organizing committee, separately. In 1970, the former two institutes were decentralized to the Office of Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (then science and technology commission of the autonomous region) thus it changed its name into “Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Institute of Physics & Chemistry”. Until 1978, with the recovery of Xinjiang branch courts of Chinese Academy of Sciences, two institutes finally returned to Chinese Academy of Sciences and formally got their name for “Xinjiang Institute of Physics, and “Xinjiang Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)”.

For more than 40 years from which the former Xinjiang Institute of Physics and the former Xinjiang Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences were prepared to construct and then founded to the moment that the two institutes were integrated with each other on March 28, 2002, the older generation science staffs of various peoples shouldered the expectations of the motherland and historical responsibility to work hard in unity in an extremely difficult and primitive conditions all starting from scratch, gradually set up and developed research disciplines as follows: radiation physics, network technology, semiconductor sensitive material & apparatus, applied chemistry, biological chemistry and natural products chemistry etc. They always adhered to take side of the nation aerospace industry and the national security building closely and dedicated themselves to make remarkable progress in science and technology and personnel training of Xinjiang ethnic minority areas. Due to their splendid work, 403 scientific and technological achievements have been acquired, of which more than 150 were prized by the nation and in the provincial and ministerial level and above, meanwhile 150 national level patents have been applied for, of which 131 were defined themselves as invention patents and 81 of them were granted. So far, a bunch of talents majoring in management, technology and education have been nurtured and transported to the municipality.
