Team orientation:
The direction of trace chemical substance perception is a new cutting-edge direction deployed by the Institute to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as a vital part of the "14th Five Year Plan" of the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry. Beginning with 2011, the team tightly centered around the national strategic need in public security, and focused on tackling the core technologies of explosion proofing and drug prohibition to benefit the integral and accurate implementation of the Party's policy for governing Xinjiang in the new era. In this direction, the team established the Xinjiang Key Laboratory of Explosive Safety Science and the Engineering Center for Explosion Prevention Technology, as well as jointly-built the Provincial Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Security, the National Key Laboratory of Market Supervision (Explosive & Hazardous Chemicals) and other innovation platforms. The team continuously conducted the researches on the detection mechanisms, chemical sensing chip, on-site detection equipment and Internet of Things online monitoring equipment for explosive, hazardous chemical and illicit drug, providing the systematic technical solutions for on-site inspection, case tracing, supervision and management. It is expected to forge a research and development base in this direction for the trace chemical substance sensing technology with international leading position, offering the core equipment for explosion proofing and drug prohibition for Xinjiang and even the entire country, implementing important applications in the public security system, public transportation and military industry. Finally, based on Xinjiang and even radiating to the entire country, the core technology is expected to be output in the "Belt and Road Initiative".
Research direction:
The team encompasses the detection of explosive and illicit drug, drug detection, invisible marking as well as safety monitoring in special occasions to conduct research.
Personnel structure:
At present, as a professional research team, it is composed of high-end scientific and technological talents in which the major covers material, chemistry, security inspection and explosive disposal, etc. and who possess rich experiences in new material development, analytical chemistry, reagent development, explosive disposal and practical application. Among them, there are 2 professors, 2 visiting professors, 1 project professor, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant research fellows and 15 engineers. These staff graduated from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), University of New Hampshire (United States), Macquarie University (Australia), Nankai University, Jilin University and some other well-known universities at home and abroad. Moreover, part of the team members were selected into the special support for National High-level Talents Plan, the CAS Introducing Plan for Overseas Outstanding Talents of, the Tianshan Leader Plan, the Xinjiang Joint Fund for Outstanding Youth of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Distinguished Young Scholar of Xinjiang, the High-level Talents of Xinjiang; and were granted the honorary titles of Xinjiang Youth Science and Technology Award, the Most Beautiful Scientific and Technical Worker in Xinjiang, etc.
Achievements:
The team takes the lead in the development of a single Schottky junction involved photoelectric artificial olfactory system and a colorimetric artificial olfactory sensing system all over the world, and achieves the complete chain outcomes of “original innovation - intelligent equipment - practical application”. Upon these, the team has published more than 60 high-level SCI academic papers, including Advanced Materials (2), Advanced Functional Materials (3), Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Science (2), Small (2), Cell Reports Physical Science (2), Nano Letters, Materials Horizons, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Advanced Optical Materials Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, etc., which were positively commented by the academicians from China, America, Russia, Australia, India, Korea, and Europe, etc. The team has applied for more than 80 Chinese patents in which 46 patents and 4 software copyrights were granted. Besides, 1 local standard were approved to issue and 2 customs sectoral standards were set up. Up to now, the team has developed more than 10 equipment for on-site detection and analysis of explosives, which have been applied in the public security system of Xinjiang thorough and widespread, the 13th National Games and other mega-events. Part of the achievements have been transformed to Guangdong Somens Technology Group and the relevant achievements are granted with the First-prize of Xinjiang Science and Technology Progress Award in 2020 and selected into the achievement exhibition of the National "13th Five Year Plan" Science and Technology Innovation.
To date, the team has cultivated more than 30 Master and Doctoral graduates, and another more than 30 postgraduate students are under supervision now. Most of graduates are employed in well-known university (e.g., Xinjiang University, Shihezi University, Hebei University) and the renowned enterprise (e.g., Geely Automobile) and 2 graduates were granted with the special support for the Outstanding Postdoctoral Researchers in Xinjiang. Also, the students in team won serial honors, including 3 winners of the President Aaward of CAS, 2 winners of the First-prize of the Excellent Natural Sciences Academic Papers in Xinjiang, 2 winners of the Third-prize of the Excellent Natural Sciences Academic Papers in Xinjiang, 1 winner of the Excellent Master Dissertation in Xinjiang, 2 winners of the National Graduate Scholarship, 3 winners of the Outstanding Graduate of CAS, 1 winner of Pollyould-Chu Excellent Doctoral Postgraduate Award, and more than 30 winners of Pacesetter of Merit Student, Merit Student and Excellent Student Cadre.
