(1) Innovative preparation of nanostructured carbon materials as well as carbon-containing nanocomposites for energy storage and conversion (supercapacitors, lithium batteries and fuel cells). 

(2) Designs and explorations of novel configurations for energy storage (sodium-batterieshybrid capacitors and liquid-fluidic cells) 

(3) Nanoporous materials with controlled pore size for novel applications in biology and environment (drug release, CO2 capture and water purification).
