  • “Study on Novel Nonlinear Optical Borate Crystal” award for the First Prize of Xinjiang scientific and technological progress

       The “Prize for Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region” meeting was hold.“Study on Novel Nonlinear Optical Borate Crystal” award in 2010 the First Prize of Xinjiang scientific and technological progress. Prof. Shilie Pan from Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences chaired the awards.

       Prof. Shilie and the team of Photonics functioning crystal materials conducted the design, synthesize, crystal growth and properties investigation on novel nonlinear optical borate crystal. Single crystal of Bi2ZnOB2O6 has been design and grown for the first time. It has large nonlinear optical coefficient and birefringence and meltscongruently. A single crystal of Bi2ZnOB2O6 has been grown with sizes up to 35mm´25mm´12mm with high quality. The effect of the function building block and properties was illuminated. The combination of Bi-O polyhedron and BO3 group in the same direction result in large nonlinear optical coefficient and birefringence. At the 1064 nm fundamental wave, the coefficient are d31=2.5d36(KDP), d32=7.6d36(KDP), d33=2.6d36(KDP). In the range of 404.7 nm to 1068 nm, the birefringence is 0.079-0.100.It measure up to advanced world standards

       The successful developments of Bi2ZnOB2O6 provide new research ways for high yields, good fruit quality and efficient industrialization of nonlinear optical crystal material. The research of function building block and properties not only develop the design and synthesize nonlinear optical crystal material with fertility and power, but also provide new ideas for study novel nonlinear optical crystal material. 34 articles were published on important international research journal including 11 articles whose Impact Factor › 4. 16 Patent Law of China and 1Patent Law of U.S. were applied. The results filled the gap of nonlinear optical crystal material in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The project “Study on Novel Nonlinear Optical Borate Crystal” has approached or reached the internationally advanced level and award in 2010 the First Prize of Xinjiang scientific and technological progress.
