March 22, Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uyghr Autonomous organized the meeting to evaluate the Autonomous High-tech Research and Development Project: Uyghur-Mandarin bilingual speech learning assisted software, which is undertaken by the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics & Chemistry.

　  The project has developed the Uyghur-Mandarin bilingual speech learning assisted software, which integrated the application of speech recognition, multimedia animation, Comic and Animation, etc. The software has implemented the function of standard Chinese reading and repeating and has achieved the learning function of pinyin, stroke, structure of word, radical, word meaning and making word group through the sound, picture and text. The software also has the following functions: guiding and correcting the users’ defective pronunciation, evaluating the precision of the users’ pronunciation, providing the Uyghur-Chinese electronic dictionary and the dynamic Uyghur-Chinese switching interface. The development and application of the software can make contributions to the bilingual education and mandarin population in Xinjiang.

　  The project developed the software into PC-edition and network-edition, which has established 5000 hours Uyghur-Chinese speech corpus based on the PEP edition of Chinese textbooks, 13600 bilingual resources and the bilingual dictionary which has more than 800 thousand words. The resources of the software have covered all the courses of primary school. For now, the software has been used in 99 classes of 69 schools in Hetian and Kashgar and the project group has published 9 papers and obtained 1 software copyright. After listening to the report of the project principal, the expert group has drawn the conclusion that the project has accomplished the job and has obtained the acceptance.
