XTIPC Releases the World’s First English Book on Basalt Fiber
Editor: | Jun 15,2025
Recently, the book High Performance Basalt Fiber: Fundamentals and Applications authored by researchers from the XTIPC, was officially published by Woodhead Publishing, an imprint of Elsevier. As the world’s first English-language book in this field, it marks a significant milestone in global basalt fiber research. The book systematically reviews recent advances, comprehensively analyzes the structure-property relationships of basalt fibers, and details preparation methods and application technologies for basalt fiber composites. It also covers historical developments, functionalization techniques, and cutting-edge topics like extraterrestrial base construction, providing a one-stop knowledge resource.
Basalt fiber, a high-performance material, has emerged as a research hotspot in materials science due to its exceptional properties and broad application prospects. This fiber not only exhibits outstanding mechanical performance, high-temperature resistance, and environmental stability but also offers excellent electrical insulation and soundproofing effects. Furthermore, its raw material, basalt ore, is abundantly available in nature, and its production process is environmentally friendly, requiring no chemical additives and generating no nitrogen- or sulfur-containing emissions, making it a truly green material. Currently, basalt fiber and its composites are widely used in transportation, aerospace, civil engineering, and other fields. Despite these advantages, challenges remain in their preparation, performance optimization, and application. Existing literature often contains inconsistent or incomplete descriptions of their properties, and many studies rely more on intuition than rational analysis.
A key feature of the book is its in-depth exploration of critical challenges in basalt fiber production and application. It analyzes factors governing mechanical performance, offering theoretical guidance for high-performance fiber design. Additionally, it evaluates fiber surface treatment technologies and their effects on composite performance, providing practical insights for industrial applications.
With growing global demand for sustainable, high-performance materials, basalt fiber composites hold expansive potential. This book fills a critical academic gap internationally while offering enterprises actionable strategies to optimize production processes and product quality. Ultimately, it aims to accelerate the industrialization of basalt fiber and drive innovative applications of this green material.
